The systematic literature review of digital health interventions in South Africa

Abstract

This article presents a systematic literature review of digital health interventions in South Africa, focusing on the integration of technology into healthcare delivery and patient management. Digital health encompasses a broad range of tools and practices, including telemedicine, wearable technologies, and augmented and virtual reality applications. The review highlights how these innovations contribute to more efficient healthcare delivery, improved patient outcomes, and the personalization of medical treatment. In particular, the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the adoption of digital health solutions such as remote consultations, digital health records, and online symptom checkers, which continue to transform clinical practice. By examining the current state of digital health technologies and their applications in the South African healthcare system, the study underscores the opportunities and challenges of implementing digital health interventions in resource-constrained settings.
