Abstract

This article provides an overview of language as a complex system of communication and examines its development, use, and scientific study through linguistics. It explores different philosophical perspectives on the nature and origin of language, including debates about the relationship between words, concepts, reality, emotion, and rational thought. The text also discusses the distinction between language as an abstract concept and as a specific linguistic system, as developed by Ferdinand de Saussure. In addition, it highlights contributions from major philosophers and linguists, including Plato, Gorgias, Rousseau, Kant, Descartes, Wittgenstein, and Noam Chomsky, demonstrating how ideas about language have developed from ancient philosophy to modern linguistic theory.
